 "eBay Scams To Avoid "

Unfortunately with the amazing growth of EBay there was always going to be the threat of EBay Scams coming to light. Here are some Scams to avoid and tips to help you overcome some of these problems.

Fraudulent purchases - Where did the money go?
Credit Card Chargebacks are a common problem with all businesses around the world even when using paypal. A chargeback occurs when a credit card holder makes a request to their bank or credit company to refund a particular purchase. This could be a legitimate request where a purchaser has not received the goods or it could be caused by somebody fraudulently using their card and the legitimate cardholder wants reimbursement. Either way it can be a headache! To avoid these situations it’s best to:

Clearly outline the terms of conditions of the sale to ensure the customer does not get cold feet
When receiving payment via paypal, ensure that the address where the items will be shipped to matches Paypal’s shipping address. Paypal does have a protection policy in place but you must meet there criteria. Proof of tracking and delivery. It pays to use a shipping company that provides tracking and an online confirmation number

Chargebacks were created to protect the cardholder. Just remember that if you ever refund a payment ensure that the cardholder. Does not “double up” by requesting a chargeback as well. Although most countries have moved on from using checks the U.S are are still renowned for accepting payment via check. Put simply, make sure you never ever post an item until your bank has confirmed the check has cleared in your account!

Where did they go? What to you do when a successful bidder disappears off the face of the earth?
A frustrating occurrence on eBay is when the auction ends yet you cannot contact the successful bidder. It is possible that the buyer has a legitimate reason for not responding. A family emergency, illness, computer problems are all legitimate reasons why they may not have got in touch. I would generally attempt to contact them twice within 10 days before taking it further.

If you are unable to make contact within 10 days it is best to file an unpaid item dispute and then re-list your item. There is really is much more you can do!

On completion of filing an unpaid item dispute, eBay should credit your listing fee back and send the non-paying bidder three warning emails. In this situation eBay has the ability to suspend non-paying bidders after three warnings.

Package Arrives Damaged Or Doesn’t Arrive At All!

This situation can really damage your feedback and is something you should immediately sort out directly with your customer either via email or telephone. The safest way to avoid the fall out from this situation is to ensure that you have appropriate insurance; you are in a much safer position if you have it. If they choose a refund, then it’s best to pay by money order or check as pay pal will take a cut and the full refund wont go back to purchaser.

You just started you Home eBay Business and made your first sale using a drop shipper yet the goods never arrive! What a nightmare!

Working directly with unknown drop shippers and wholesalers can be a dangerous business, that’s why always suggest you use a wholesaler Directory such as Salehoo.com. Some of the obvious warning signs that the drop shipper is a fraud:

-There website has no physical contact address or telephone number.  Unfortunately the   internet  makes it easier for fraudsters to simply establish a web site

-The drop shipper or wholesaler insist that they will only take cash payment via direct transfer.   Although some legitimate business Prefer cash payments most are capable of taking credit   card  or  pay pal payments.

-They  answer the phone in an unprofessional manner such as “hello”. I know it sounds  simple    but you would be surprised!

-There business is not listed in any Wholesale or drop shipping directories on the internet.

These are just a couple of signs, ultimately its up to you to use or own intuition and common sense. My suggestion is to visit my product sourcing page for more Information about sourcing products from Dropshipping & Wholesalers!
